Journey's Neal Schon: 'Been waiting' for Michaele Salahi for 15 years

You may have been rolling your eyes and muttering stunt! at the news of Michaele Salahi's sudden split from husband Tareq for Journey guitarist Neal Schon.

But to Michaele and Neal, it's a case of true love finally being realized.

Michaele and Neal have been communicating with The Daily Beast's Diane Dimond, via telephone and text, as Journey continues its cross-country tour.

"It's like a fairy tale. It is, it really is," Schon told Dimond from a hotel room in Tampa. "I'm very happy, very happy after waiting for her for 15 years. Now I want to get beyond all this media hype that Tareq has put out there. It's really quite embarrassing."

The two got together after Michaele and Tareq went to a Labor Day weekend Journey concert near their Virginia home.

"Neal was like, 'Are we going to do this forever?' And I said, 'No, we're not,'" Michaele said of the moment she realized it was time to leave Tareq. "I began to see he really loved me. I had to begin to feel it completely–in my soul."

She took off her wedding ring in front of Tareq, says Neal, and then told Neal, "I love YOU."

Christina Hendricks and John Slattery of "Mad Men" celebrated their show's fourth consecutive victory as best drama series, while former "Friends" Matt LeBlanc chatted nearby. A bespectacled Andy Samberg of "Saturday Night Live" held court across the room, while all over people texted madly on their phones oblivious to the party in full swing around them.

Judah Friedlander of "30 Rock," whose character Frank wears trucker hats, sported a black hat reading "World Champion" in sparkly letters.

Richmond hopes to work out with NBA players

Former Waukegan High School basketball star Jereme Richmond was finalizing travel plans Friday in hopes a Lake County Judge will allow him to travel out of state to meet with NBA players.

Richmond, 19, was charged in August with two felonies following an alleged attack on a woman believed to be his girlfriend. He was freed from custody after posting bond in mid-August.

On Wednesday, Richmond asked Lake County Circuit Judge Daniel Shanes to let him leave the state because he is being recruited by NBA teams. Shanes denied the request because he said he needed more details about where Richmond wanted to go and how he would get there.

Richmond’s attorney, Lawrence Wade II, said Friday he will be presenting all the details in court Monday. “(Richmond) has the opportunity to work out with NBA players and other (NBA) prospects,” Wade said.

Richmond led the Waukegan bulldogs to two state tournaments. After high school, he played one year for the University of Illinois, then declared for the NBA draft.

Richmond has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. He is due back in court Monday.

ESPN Extends Deal With N.F.L. for $15 Billion

Hours before the N.F.L. season was to begin Thursday, ESPN demonstrated what “Monday Night Football” means to the cable empire by renewing it for nearly $15.2 billion through 2021, according to a person briefed on the details.
The eight-year extension is to be announced at 11 a.m. Eastern time by Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the N.F.L., and George Bodenheimer, the head of ESPN.

At $1.9 billion a year, ESPN will be paying 73 percent more than the $1.1 billion a year it has been spending for “Monday Night.” ESPN began carrying Monday night games in 2006 when its previous package of Sunday night games moved to NBC.

But when ESPN made that deal, which will expire in 2013, it received no playoff games and no chance of carrying a Super Bowl. All it had were the rights to carry 17 regular-season games a year. It is not yet known if ESPN will get a playoff game or under what conditions it would be able to do so in the coming years.

But the agreement will allow it to further secure its role as the cable channel with more N.F.L. content than any other except for the NFL Network. Under the contract, ESPN will add 500 new hours of league-branded studio shows almost immediately, including a third hour to the Sunday program, “NFL Countdown.”

The daily “NFL Live “will expand from a half-hour to 60 minutes.

The deal also let ESPN stream its N.F.L. programming to Verizon cellphones.

For ESPN, the length of the deal is advantageous because it will negotiate all of its deals with cable, satellite and telephone companies — which will almost certainly lead to subscriber fees exceeding the more than $4 a month that ESPN now charges.

The extension of the ESPN deal is the first of what are certain to be a flurry of renewals with NBC, CBS and Fox.

It's being reported that Lifetime and The Weinstein Co. last week hosted a Manhattan cocktail party for a new "Project Runway" spinoff entitled "Project Accessory", which will feature a cast of contestants competing to make their mark in the world of - you guessed it - fashion accessories.

The New York Post wrote that several movers-and-shakers of the fashion world were in attendance including Kenneth Cole, Molly Sims and Rachel Roy. The event - which had the well-heeled group giving contestants feedback on their designs - is slated to be featured in an upcoming episode of the series, expected to premiere either later this year or in early 2012.

It will be interesting to see how far the "Project Runway" brand can stretch with the new show, which hasn't yet spawned a hit spin-off despite several attempts including "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style", "Models of the Runway" hosted by Heidi Klum, and "On the Road with Austin and Santino".
